Mohs Surgery and Reconstruction | Dr. James Rosing Board Certified Plastic Surgeon

Newport Beach Dermatology and Plastic Surgery is the premier location in Orange County for Mohs Micrographic Surgery.  We optimize Mohs Micrographic Surgery by combining the knowledge and skill our board certified dermatologist, Dr. Anne Marie McNeill, performing the Mohs excision followed by same-day Mohs repair by our board certified plastic surgeon, Dr. James Rosing.

Mohs surgery, also known as chemosurgery, is microscopically controlled surgery used to treat common types of skin cancer. Dermatologists with Mohs training will often remove facial skin cancers from patients resulting in large full thickness defects. These defects are most suitably closed by a plastic surgeon. While simple closures can be achieved in the office setting under local analgesia, more complex defects should be closed in the operating room. Most often, conscious sedation (not full anesthesia) is used and patients go home the same day. A compressive dressing is applied to the wound which is removed at the post-operative visit.

Come to our office where experienced doctors combine their wealth of knowledge in their given fields of study to allow for the best possible outcome for your surgery.  Add friendly and knowledgeable staff that will make you as comfortable as possible during Mohs surgery for Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinomas and you’ve achieved uncompromised care that cannot be matched.

What makes our office unique?  Dr. Anne Marie McNeill performs the Mohs Surgery to remove your skin cancer with the highest cure rate compared to other skin cancer removal techniques.  Immediately after the Mohs excision site has a clear margin, meaning both deep and peripheral margins of the skin cancer have been microscopically confirmed to be clear, Dr. James Rosing then surgically repairs the Mohs defect.  Having plastic surgeon Dr. James Rosing perform the repair allows for the best aesthetic outcome.  At Newport Beach Dermatology and Plastic Surgery, the Mohs excision, pathologic analysis, as well as same-day repair are all performed on-site in our state-of-the-art facilities.  On occasion, should the Mohs excision result in a large defect, Dr. James Rosing may elect to perform the repair at Newport Beach Surgery Center, where general anesthesia can be administered by an anesthesiologist.
