MEDICAL GRADE PEEL AT HOME- Jennifer Moller MS, PA-C

Did you know the cellular turnover of our skin and the stimulation of collagen slows down in our 30’s? A
baby’s skin turns over approximately every 14 days, and in our 30’s it is every 30-35 days. Yikes! That’s
why a baby’s skin is so soft and plump, and well… why as we age it’s not so soft and plump.
Retin-A has been proven to increase cellular turnover for newer, healthier skin. This is why we see the
peeling when we use Retin-A. As we age the cellular turnover slows down, causing dead skin cells
remain on our face, giving our skin a dull appearance.
With many of us at home and nowhere to go, now is the time to do an “At Home Peel”. Take this time
to do a little self-care, and give your skin its glow back! PEEL OFF THAT OLD DEAD SKIN!
All you need are 3 simple products:
1. Retin-A or Tretinoin cream (.025%-0.1%) The stronger, the better! This is available only by prescription.
2. VaniCream or MD Intensive Night Repair (You are gonna need this!!!)
3. Exfolia Cloth (Helps remove dead skin that is sloughing off)
PRO TIP: You cannot find Retin-A or Tretinoin cream at the drugstore. What is offered over the counter is
Retinol, which is the weakest form of Retin-A. If you want a medical grade peel, you need the good stuff!
Directions for use:
1. Apply TWO pea sized amounts of Retin-A or Tretinoin cream to your face MORNING and NIGHT.
(This is twice the recommended amount… be cautious, your skin will get dry and irritated!)
2. Apply VaniCream or MD Intensive Night Repair MORNING and NIGHT.
3. Use Exfolia cloths every other day to remove excess dead skin that is sloughing off
4. Do routine for 1 week, and then return to your regular nightly only use of Retin-A or Tretinoin
cream.
Note: Be careful with the application around your eyes. You should not go beyond your orbital bone
(don’t apply on your upper or lower eye lids). I like to apply a Hyaluronic Acid Serum to the upper and lower
eyelids prior to the application of the Tretinoin cream to create a barrier. (I still got a little eye lid
dermatitis from my use of the Tretinoin, but it was easily mediated with a cortisone cream.)
What to expect:
1. Mild- Moderate irritation, itchiness, redness.
2. Mild-Moderate peeling. Tiny peels, not sheets of skin peeling.
3. Some patients will have a little acne break out, this is normal and will resolve.
4. Softer, smoother skin, with a nice glow.
Continue the Retin-A or Tretinoin cream nightly for a long term effect of smoother skin and
softening of fine lines and wrinkles.
I like the image below because it shows how important cellular turnover is, and the role of elastin
and collagen in our skin. In our 30’s collagen production slows down along with cellular turnover,
causing our skin to look aged. Retin-A and Tretinoin cream can help regenerate skin to give back its
youthful appearance.
